Not Drowning; Fighting!: A Baptist Call to Worship

Lent 3C March 3 2013 Newmarket Baptist Church

Inspired by Fijian member of our church, Kemu Qoroya and his interest in the 350 Pacific campaign , we went with a mash up of the lectionary’s Isaiah 55 reading and the Pacific Island Warriors as our call to worship. We exploring the idea of Call to Worship as a Call to Action as a worship response to Christ who seeks to reconcile all things.  We noted as a local church we were started by Alfred ‘Dad’ Mathews who called for a ’cause in our neighbourhood’ in 1886 and that the Baptist movement itself was founded around the cause of ‘religious freedom’ over 400 years ago… ironically many were persecuted and sometimes even ‘drowned’ for their convictions… but they refused to give up, they fought and won!  “We’re not drowning – We’re Fighting!”
